There is a new fad that is sweeping the nation. I have noticed the past
few years that the term/fad, "country" is turning into a gold mine
for businesses. Country holds so much more meaning in today's society than it
did in previous years. "Country" is now a brand, it holds so much
more meaning than just a genre of music. Being "country" is now a new
fad for my generation. Consumers want to dress and act in the ways of this new
fad. Being "county" means that consumers are now listening to hours
of country music, dressing in plaid and boots, and doing things that could give
them the label of, "country".
Country music is one of the fastest growing genres in the United States.
This increase is doing more than selling records, this growth is changing how a
single generation is acting and most importantly, spending. Typical country
songs will be about trucks, hunting/fishing, beer, faith, and love. It is easy
to say that country music enthusiasts will start to live their life like the
songs because they want to relate to the songs that they are listening too.
This desire means that the listeners will start spending their money in certain
ways. It is expected to see and increase in the consumption of all of the items
addressed earlier, except love. Everything that has a monetary value will
increase in sales. It is imperative that businesses take into consideration
this increase in trend and market their products in such a way.
I also have noticed this trend that has in my view changed the definition of country. This is great however for businesses that notice this trend and will market towards it. Truck dealers and western wear companies could take advantage of this trend and start marketing to the people who are jumping on the "Country" bandwagon. These consumers will buy boots and trucks to say that they wear boots when they are walking to Starbucks or put a gallon of milk in the bed of their truck. While in my view boots should be used to walk through a cow lot and protect your feet from rough terrain and trucks should be used to transport baby calves or dead deer to the barn.
ReplyDeleteI agree in the way that country is spreading around the country. It is truly becoming a fad to say the least especially in the mid-west areas of the country. I definitely have noticed that the way people live in the mid-west is different from the west coast where I am from but I can also see some of the country fad showing up in west and eastern areas as well. I have already seen business capitalize on this opportunities such as guitar center and denim clothes companies. I expect to see more business show up in new markets as the trend keeps growing and spreading into different segments of the country.
